Introducing our new Assistant Communication Adviser

" What does the role of Assistant Communications Adviser  involve?

" What do you hope to achieve as part of this role?

As Assistant Lead Communications Volunteer, I'll be supporting lead volunteer Natalie in running the Girlguiding Midlands social media pages, putting together newsletters and making sure you're all kept informed about anything exciting going on in the region. I hope to be able to do more within Girlguiding on a flexible basis and grow the communications team at a time when virtual Guiding has never been more important.

" What other roles do you have in guiding?

I'm currently Unit Leader of a combined Rainbows and Brownies unit in Trinity North District (Birmingham County), and have a decade of experience across Rainbow, Brownie and Guide units both in the Midlands and in Cardiff while I was at university.

" What relevant previous experiences have you had which led you to this Region role?

In a variety of jobs, from managing volunteers to working in a bar, I've used social media professionally and run monthly newsletters.

" What is your favourite thing you have done, or your greatest achievement, as a member of Girlguiding?

Every time I see one of my girls or my team achieves something makes me proud. I've seen shy girls come out their shells and achieve things they never thought they would, such as one Brownie conquering her nervousness of abseiling while on Pack Holiday. It's an honour to be able to mentor young women to be the best they can be.

" What do you enjoy outside guiding?

My day job is working in a gin bar. When I'm not there or working on guiding tasks most of my time is taken up by giving my dog, Marble, the love and attention he deserves.

" What is your favourite biscuit and why?

Depends whether there's a cup of tea involved! I love chocolate so my favourite biscuit is a Bourbon Cream, but nothing beats a Malted Milk for dunkability.

" What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?

Diligent, energetic, patient
