The Region Awards “surprise” team were out in force again last Friday night, this time in Staffordshire, to spring a surprise on Teresa Ellis, the Region International Adviser.
Teresa thought she was running the Division Quiz, to help celebrate the end of a difficult and challenging year and have some end of term fun. The evening started with a welcome and thank you to all the division volunteers. Then just before handing over to Teresa the Division Commissioner, Karen Micklewright, introduced the Chief Commissioner Abi Salter who in turn introduced her deputy Sandy, her successor Clare Shinton, Rachel McMaster and Lesley Knighton, Region Chair of Awards, all of whom had been lurking off camera with dodgy names such as Dep C and Rocky Owl!
Abi then turned her attention to Teresa who listened in rather a shocked manner while Abi told the Zoom Party about the outstanding work Teresa had done over many years, particularly with International. Abi then invited Teresa’s husband Mark to present a rather stunned Teresa with the Association’s Laurel Award.
It was at this point Teresa realised that as well as the division volunteers watching on zoom, members of her close family, including her young grandson, were also enjoying the event. It was at this point Teresa was reduced to tears!
The Region Team then left the proceedings to allow Teresa to run her quiz and continue the celebrations. This is the second surprise award we have carried out virtually. We have one more left to do so watch this space!
Sincere congratulations to Teresa and many thanks for all she has done for Girlguiding.
