The role of Assistant Safeguarding Adviser involves supporting members in the region when a safeguarding concern is raised. We work closely with HQ safeguarding team and offer a local network. We are responsible to the Lead Safeguarding Adviser. It is not our job to investigate, but it is our responsibility to ensure all are supported and have a safe place to go for their wellbeing. I hope to promote wellbeing across all members of our Girlguiding Region. In a world where there are so many uncertainties and 'what ifs' at the moment, self-care and recognising when we need a little extra 'top up' is really important.
As previously mentioned, I have been a leader in Charge with Rainbows. I have worked in Child Protection or Children in Care since leaving college when I was 18. I currently work in an Edge of Care team with Children and Families. I have also recently just finished University as a mature student, and when current restrictions are lifted with be graduating in my cap and gown with a BA (Hons) Therapeutic Child Care.
My favourite girlguiding memory is visiting Sangam in 2018 with Shropshire. 42 of us embarked on a journey of a lifetime to see the Golden Triangle and spend some time in Sangam. Never have I been anywhere that managed to stimulate all 5 senses at the same time! It was a once in a lifetime experience.
Outside of girlguiding I enjoy travelling, which tends to be limited to the UK at the moment. We own a VW Camper so we like to head off and see where the road takes us! We also enjoy going to all the VW festivals that are usually held around the UK. It can be a little cosy at times; 2 adults, 1 child and 4 sausage dogs snuggled up in the van! I also have a not so secret love of Disney, especially Toy Story!
Lively, honest and a social-butterfly!
